Decatur Moves

A new era of public transportation is thriving in Decatur & Macon County! The Decatur Public Transit System (DPTS) operates Decatur Moves, a modern microtransit service designed to make getting around the region easier, more affordable, and more accessible for everyone. This service utilizes ADA-accessible vans and other vehicles to provide curb-to-curb shared rides.

• Book rides 7 days a week between 5:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.
• $2 urban rides - within Decatur, Mt. Zion, and Forsyth city limits
• $5 rural rides - rest of Macon County
• 48-hour booking window

Microtransit bridges the gap between traditional fixed-route buses and ride-hailing services like Uber. Using smaller, branded vehicles, it provides curb-to-curb shared rides within designated zones. Riders are picked up and dropped off at assigned stops, sometimes sharing trips with others traveling in similar time frames—a "group Uber" experience. Microtransit was one of many recommendations to improve and modernize public transportation. 

Decatur Moves operates in two zones: the Urban Zone includes rides within city limits of Decatur, Mt. Zion, and Forsyth. The Rural Zone expands service to the full Macon County boundary, delivering access to rural areas that have long been underserved.

Integration with Fixed Routes:  

Microtransit offers connections to fixed-route buses at transit hubs when that is the most efficient option.

Extended Coverage: 

Operates during fixed-route downtimes and connects to neighboring communities participating in restructured transit services.

ADA Support:

Curb-to-curb service for eligible riders with wheelchairs, walkers, and other disabilities. Riders must be able to board and de-board vehicles under their own power, or with assistance from a Personal Care Attendant (PCA). Please view our Rider Guide for wheelchair and ramp specifications.

DPTS still offers traditional para-transit service, Operation Uplift, for those needing door-to-door assistance.
