May 24, 2011
New commissioners Bob Long and Carlin Koester were sworn in as new members of the Parks & Recreation Commission prior to roll call.
The meeting of the Parks & Recreation Commission was called to order by Kent Hadden, Chairperson Parks & Recreation Commission at 5:25 p.m. Roll call was taken; commissioners in attendance were Bob Long, Carlin Koester, Renee’ Wendell, and Bob Swartz. Also in attendance were Parks & Recreation Director, Judy Roessler and Village Trustee Donna Scales.
Minutes: Minutes from the March 22, 2011 meeting were approved on a motion by Bob Swartz and second by Renee’ Wendell. Motion carried.
Public Forum: No one was in attendance
Old Business: Maps for the Land Use Plan were reviewed. A park map was updated to include Fletcher Park and the trail and greenway plan was reviewed with no changes.
New Business: An update was given on the progress of Fletcher Park construction and the grand opening of the park on Sunday, July 3rd. Concrete work has almost been completed and the playground has drainage and rock in place. There still needs to be a border around the playground and mulch placed. Also the umbrellas need to be installed. Dirt work needs to be done and seeded. The tennis courts are being repaired and will be painted soon and the fence damage will get an estimate soon. The schedule for the grand opening is in place with 40 crafters, 5 bands, 9 food vendors, and 5 children’s booths as well as 3 inflatables. I am still in need of volunteers to man the inflatables with several P&R commissioners volunteering. I will contact them with a schedule with when I need help. The recreation center has been rented several times this spring and summer. There are several recreation classes scheduled this summer in the building also. We also have 4 weddings booked for this summer all after July 3rd.
